Two former St. Louis Blues hockey players and two of the best athletes to play the game in the past quarter century are reportedly teaming up to purchase the Dallas Stars.

As the Dallas Observer reports this morning, Brett Hull and Wayne Gretzky are said to be teaming up with current player Mike Modano to purchase the Dallas NHL franchise. Hull skated for the Blues from 1988-1998 before leaving to play three seasons with the Stars. Gretzky suited up for the Blues briefly during the 1996 season.

Per the Observer:
Gretzky, widely considered the greatest player to ever lace up a pair of skates, recently sold his minority stake in the Phoenix Coyotes when the NHL bought the team as part of the franchise's bankruptcy re-organization. After two seasons as co-general manager of the Stars, Hull is currently the team's executive vice president. Modano, meanwhile, is in the twilight of his 16-year career in Dallas. The all-time leading scorer and face of the franchise since its move here from Minnesota in 1993, Modano will likely retire after this season.
Dallas Stars owner Tom Hicks announced earlier this year that he's considering selling the money-losing franchise.
