You may be unaware, but today, May 14, is St. Louis Reads Day. (It's also the Independence Days of Paraguay and Israel and the birthday of Danny Wood, the least-celebrated of the New Kids on the Block.) In celebration, you could go outside and sit under a tree with a good book.

Or, if you are a child in one of the city's Head Start or Title 1 Preschool programs, you can collect your very own copy of Curious George Visits the Library, courtesy of Ready Readers and National City Bank. Ready Readers hopes the book will prove suggestive; they're sticking a bookmark in every copy pimping the St. Louis Public Library's summer reading programs.

If this is not inducement enough, the Curious One and the Man With the Yellow Hat will be making a special guest appearance at the event kickoff at the Stix Childhood Center just east of Barnes Jewish Hospital.

Ready Readers sends volunteers to local preschools to ready to low-income kids to inspire them to read more.
