Have you logged into the Post-Dispatch's website today?

If not, you're in for quite a change. The site got a major re-working last night that, per the paper, allows its stltoday.com to "be more easily searched and indexed."

The most noticeable change, however, is likely to impact the paper's notorious commenters. (Exhibits A, B.) No longer does their keen insight and wisdom appear directly below an article. Instead, the comments appear on a separate "Discussion" page detached from the article.

A year ago stltoday.com conducted a poll asking its readers whether it should eliminate online comments entirely.

More than half of respondents said yes, and afterward the paper's brass stated that it was looking for ways to better manage the comments. For better or for worse, it looks like they've arrived at an answer with today's redesign.
