Seriously, this is just wrong.
Fred Phelps and his hate-spewing minions at the Topeka-based Westboro Baptist Church have made more than a few appearances in St. Louis this year. They picketed Lady Gaga at the Scottrade Center and a Cardinals game at Busch Stadium back in July. And now, it seems, they're coming back to our "evil city with the giant arch."

According to Phelps' website, he and his fellow wackos will once again return to Busch Stadium for Saturday's game against the Rockies. Phelps -- who also pickets the funerals of American military veterans and gay people who died of AIDS -- takes issue with Busch because it's where "lazy, gluttonous Doomed americans gather for their favorite passtime." (Typos are both [sic] and sick.)

Generally it's best to deny fringe lunatics like Phelps the attention they crave, but his visit this weekend coincides with the creation of one of the coolest websites around. Earlier this month, a gay couple from Florida started, a creative and satirical twist on Phelps' notorious

The couple -- Kevin Cobb and Andres Almeida -- ask their readers to take printouts of the ranting, rhetoric-filled press releases sent to the media by Westboro Baptist and heavily redact them with a black marker until all that's left are a few words of poetry, usually with a positive message. Here's one example:
Check out the rest on their Tumblr page or via their Twitter account, @godlovespoetry. Also read the excellent piece about them by NPR, "Mashup Turns Messages Of Hate Into Poetry Preaching Love"

Now then. Here's the screed that Phelps and Co. composed for their upcoming stop at Busch:
All roads lead to the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS)! Next stop on the I-70 GodSmack Tour from WBC to DC: Busch Stadium for the St. Louis Cardinals vs. Colorado Rockies baseball game, where lazy, gluttonous Doomed americans gather for their favorite passtime. God has taken all your money, jobs, homes and peace; there is terror all around, making you run from yourselves; there is NO HOPE, only FULL DESTRUCTION for you rebels; yet, you have money and time to spend watching baseball! It's the black horse of Revelation 6 riding through the land, to wit: "Rev. 6:5-6 - And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine." God sent these things to you because you set upon His people in both Illinois and Colorado on more than one occasion to do them harm for warning you to flee the wrath to come. How you treat God's people in the earth is how you treat God "Mt. 25:40 - And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." What you thought to do to WBC, God has promised to do, and is doing to you, ON STEROIDS! And, He is just getting warmed up! You should have listened! The time is short! Hear and OBEY TODAY!
Anybody care to give it the Sharpie treatment or pick out a few words and post your poem in the comments?
