Facing serious financial problems, the Farmington Pet Adoption Center may be forced to close. The center, a private no-kill shelter for dogs and cats about 60 miles south of St. Louis, has until December 26 to replace a bad septic tank, or the local health department will shut them down.

According to KFVS Channel 12 Heartland News, the center needs about $25,000 for the septic tank. The health department became aware of the bad tank and gave the center 30 days to replace it, or at least get a concrete plan in place.

"I'm looking for Santas," Beth Haase of the center's board of directors told Channel 12. Haase and others at the center say if plenty of people chip in, they can keep the center open and keep the dogs and cats there, waiting to be adopted.

Unless you are some kind of kitten-hating monstrosity, cruise on over to www.farmingtonpet.org and virtually throw two bits in the kitty.
