  • Marquell Jackson's body was found in the 2300 block of South Jefferson, a block from his home.

His name was Marquell Jackson. He was eighteen months old. And police now believe he was beaten to death.

That's the latest on the little boy who was found dead in a McKinley Heights trash bin yesterday around 6:45 a.m. His relatives had reported him missing just 30 minutes before.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports today that Marquell's mother, 28-year-old Melissa Jackson, is pregnant with a second child. Neighbors described her as nice and said that the little boy was happy and smiley; a check of shows that Jackson has no criminal history in St. Louis County or in the city.

We'll have more on this sad story as the police investigation continues.

UPDATE: The P-D reports that Marquell's mother has been arrested.
