Yesterday's high temperature in St. Louis reached 101, and while the mercury is expected to dip a bit today, the humidity is also expected to climb, making it feel just as warm or even hotter than the past few days.

And the heat isn't going to let up anytime soon. Today the National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for St. Louis through Tuesday, when temps are expected to return to triple digits. The St. Louis region and parts of Oklahoma are the only areas in the country currently under such an advisory.

And the weather is taking its toll. In the Metro East, the heat is blamed on a half-dozen deaths this month. On the Missouri side of the river, an additional seven people have died as a likely result of the weather. The most recent confirmation came yesterday when a medical examination revealed that a 75-year-old woman in St. Louis died Sunday due to heat exposure. Her air conditioner was running but blasting hot air.
