Synthetic Cocaine Now Marketed as "Jewelry Cleaner"

A bill aimed at making new forms of synthetic drugs illegal in Missouri doesn't go into effect until August 28, yet already it seems that dealers are attempting to stay one step ahead of the law.

The legislation targets fake marijuana and cocaine products, the latter of which have been marketed in Missouri as "bath salts." Now the synthetic cocaine is being sold as another product altogether: jewelry cleaner.

This week Fox 2 exposed how one St. Louis area head-shop is selling the drug under the name Cosmic Blast jewelry cleaner. Similar drugs have been marketed in other states as "glass cleaner."

Yet the marketing change won't seem to impact the drug's legality. As Fox 2 discovered, Cosmic Dust contains the stimulant/hallucinogen methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV), which is one of dozens of banned chemicals in the new law that goes in effect this month. See Fox 2's report after the jump...
