Someone is calling people to solicit donations for injured Florissant patrolman Mike Vernon, who doctors fear may be paralyzed. They're bold scoundrels, even claiming to be Florissant police officers themselves in some cases.

The real Florissant Police Department has issued a statement warning would-be donors that no one from the department is soliciting by phone and further advises citizens that  "If you are contacted by one of these persons,to  please call the police." The department's non-emergency number is 314-831-7000.

If you are interested in donating to Officer Vernon, you can do so in person at the Florissant station or by mail. Donations can be addressed to Florissant Police Welfare Association, c/o Officer Mike Vernon, 1700 N Highway 67, Florissant MO, 63033.
