We'll call him the "ninja bandit" -- not because he's super "ninja" about his banditry, but because he tried to disguise himself thus.

He got caught anyway.

Mitchell Avery Montgomery, a 30-year-old from the 900 block of Erskine Avenue in Lemay, has been charged by city prosecutors with robbery, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon -- all felonies -- for an incident that occurred last spring.

On May 24, Montgomery is alleged to have entered the Southern Commercial Bank at 7201 South Broadway at 11:23 am.

According to the probable cause statement, he was wearing a black ninja mask and holding a gun. He demanded money from the teller, who handed some over the counter. Montgomery took it and ran off.

After exiting the bank, he pulled off his mask and was confronted and chased by another individual. Montgomery pointed his gun at that person and said, "Back off, man. Back off."

(We really wish he would've said, "Back off man. I'm a ninja." But he did not say that.)

Montgomery's fingerprints were found at the scene, and when he was arrested, prosecutors say, he admitted to robbing the bank so that he could pay off a debt.

According to Casenet, Montgomery is being held on $100,000 cash-only bond.
