An argument between two acquaintances inside the Little Bar, a south-city neighborhood dive, spilled over into the streets outside when one man pulled out a knife and stabbed the other in the neck and abdomen early Thursday morning, according to police.

Andrew Barnett, 33, of the 5900 block of Livingston Drive, faces one charge of first-degree assault and one charged of armed criminal action. He is held on a $1 million cash-only bond.

Barnett's victim, 32-year-old Kristopher Schmeiderer, was rushed into surgery Thursday morning to repair damage to the pancreas, diaphragm and neck, police told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Schmeiderer, a father of three young children, was put on a ventilator and couldn't feel anything from the neck down.

Barnett waited with multiple knives for Schmeiderer to come outside after their inside argument, according to the Post-Dispatch. Barnett fled in a car and was arrested two hours later in south St. Louis County.

When there aren't stabbings going on, the Little Bar is one of the Riverfront Times' favorite holes-in-the-wall. Our music staff described it thusly: "True to its name, this spot is a few hundred square feet at best, and every inch is hazy with cigarette smoke and the dust of hundreds of scratch-off lottery tickets -- conveniently available behind the bar."
