Alone downtown? Need to walk to your car? Get an escort!

(No, not that kind of escort.)

Anyone who spends much time downtown has probably noticed St. Louis' guides, people dressed in yellow and black stationed around the area.

"We like to say they're the extra eyes and ears on the street," says Downtown St. Louis Inc. COO Missy Kelley, who calls them the "concierge of downtown." "They'll give people directions or make a recommendation on where to eat lunch. Or if they see something that looks funky, they'll immediately call 911."

For free, guides will escort St. Louis residents to their cars.

"They'll walk you from anywhere, any downtown property, whether it's a business or in front of your apartment building," Kelley tells Daily RFT. "They'll meet you wherever and walk you to your car."

The guides are employees whose salaries come from an assessment on downtown real estate.

Need an escort? Call 314-280-4817 between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday through Friday.
