What happens when fake love starts to feel a little too real?

Comedic genius Conan O'Brien thinks he knows. He aired a parody commercial for the St. Louis-based tech startup Invisible Girlfriend on his TBS show Conan Monday night.

The commercial imagines the future life of an unsuspecting Invisible Girlfriend "customer," from moving in with his invisible girlfriend to having two invisible kids and an invisible terrier.

The bit is pretty hilarious, although it's even funnier to watch O'Brien's incredulity when he tries to explain that the business, which was founded in St. Louis, is a totally real company. Invisible Girlfriend and Invisible Boyfriend began at the 2013 St. Louis Startup Weekend when entrepreneur Matt Homann pitched the idea to a room full of developers and tech go-getters. Designed to give clients credible (but fake) social proof of a girlfriend or boyfriend, Invisible Girlfriend won the competition and a $3,000 prize.

A year later, the company has launched its beta product from its offices in downtown St. Louis and is stirring up interest at Buzzfeed, The Today Show, the Guardian, TIME magazine and more.

For $29.99 per month, Invisible Girlfriend and Invisible Boyfriend offer texting, voicemails and a handwritten note from a fake love created by the customer.
