Some unfortunate soul "close" to the cast members of The Real Housewives of Orange County is whispering rumors to the gossip rags, and if the rumors are true, it's big news for St. Louis.

Us Weekly, E! and People are all reporting that Meghan Edmonds, wife No. 3 of former St. Louis Cardinals player Jim Edmonds, is a new member of the hit reality show's Orange County cast.

Meghan has already started filming for the show, which is several weeks into production, according to E! news. Eyewitnesses have spotted her filming with RHOC regular Heather Dubrow in Laguna Beach and with Shannon Beador, Tamra Judge and Lizzie Rovsek in Napa.

News broke last week that Jimmy Baseball himself will film segments for the show here in River City, possibly as a way to gauge whether the time is right for The Real Housewives of St. Louis. So far, the show's parent company Bravo has stayed silent about adding Mr. and Mrs. Edmonds to the cast.

Edmonds took a leave of absence this week from his role as a host of the Edmonds, McKernan and Moe Show on the St. Louis sports station CBS 920 AM. Edmonds told listeners that one of reasons for the sabbatical was so he could provide support for his first wife, who's battling cancer, and their daughter.

"We've got our hands full right now. Just another reason why we're real people," Edmonds said during Tuesday's show sign off. (Did you catch that? "Real" people? As in, Real Housewives?)

Real Housewives is a pet project of St. Louis native and Bravo executive Andy Cohen, who famously rejected the idea of a Real Housewives of St. Louis show in 2010:

"I'm from St. Louis. I know the real housewives of St. Louis," he said then to the New York Times. "I don't necessarily want to see them on TV. Please don't let that be a slam on my hometown because it's my favorite place."

The Real Housewives cast let it slip in November that new housewives were joining the cast.

"We have three newbies and they don't know what the fuck they're doing," Judge told Us Weekly last November.

The second newbie is fellow baseball wife Katie Chadwick Hamilton, who is married to Los Angeles Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton. Who's the third? So far, no one knows.
