A Pine Lawn Police officer fired twice at a 17-year-old suspect who pointed a gun at him before fleeing, according to St. Louis County Police.

It's unlikely that either of the shots fired struck Tyreece Young, who is now wanted for first degree assault of a law enforcement officer, police said. Investigators are now searching for Young.

The Pine Lawn officer, who was not identified, was working a secondary job as security at the Skate King indoor roller rink, at 2700 Kienlen Avenue, when he heard multiple gunshots at about 7 p.m. Sunday across the street near the intersection of Creston Avenue and Stillwell Drive.

The officer, who had been conducting a check of the parking lot, left his post to investigate, police said. As he arrived at the intersection, the officer heard more gunshots and saw a car fleeing the scene get its rear driver's side window shot out.

After hearing a woman's screams, the officer continued toward the scene, where he was confronted in the street by Young, whom the officer recognized. When the officer announced he was a cop, Young pointed a gun at him, prompting the officer to fire two shots, according to St. Louis County Police.

Young, who lives up the street from the crime scene in the 6200 block of Canna Drive, fled to a gray-colored Ford Taurus, which made a U-turn and sped away, police said.

The St. Louis County Police's crime scene unit found two shell casings from what is believed to be the officer's duty weapon as well as multiple shell casings from an unknown 9mm weapon.
