If yesterday was subpar in the romance department, you only have yourself to blame.

That's according to the deal site Groupon, which recently named St. Louis the most romantic city in the U.S., ahead of Tampa, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Denver and Sacramento, which rounded out the top five.

So how'd we score this honor? As it turns out, Groupon looked at which cities had been most likely to snap up its deals for activities classified as romantic, from massages to candelight dinners to hot-air balloon rides. By that metric, we bested all others in the country.

But that got us thinking.

Are we really more romantic? Or are we just more frugal?

Those investment bankers in New York would never dream of showing a girl a good time with a coupon. And the women we knew in L.A. would never say yes to a guy who wanted to go dutch — much less one who'd pay for his share using a $50 Groupon he'd bought for $25. But here in the Lou, we're all in favor of a good bargain. Why pay $80 for a massage if you can get it for $40? Why judge your date for being, well, sensible?

A date who isn't a diva? Now that's romantic. No wonder we won this thing.
