The road rage shooting of a three-year-old boy this weekend has two teens facing some serious adult charges — and the little boy fighting for his life.

William Hampton and Jerry Hampton each face eight felonies, including first-degree assault after an incident in north St. Louis Saturday evening. Police say Jerry, 17, of the LaSalle Park neighborhood, was the trigger man, while William, 18, of Jennings, was behind the wheel of a 2015 Toyota Avalon, according to the allegations.

The toddler's dad, a 23-year-old identified only as D.F., claims he was turning onto Grand Boulevard from Interstate 70 when William almost hit him with the Avalon. The father yelled out his window at him.

D.F. told investigators the teens were still behind him when he made a left onto Blair Avenue in the College Hill neighborhood, and one of them opened fire. The child was hit once in the head.

His father drove straight to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital, where the boy was still in critical condition on Monday night.

Charges against Jerry and William Hampton — it wasn't immediately clear if they're related — include three counts of assault, four counts armed criminal action and one count unlawful use of a weapon.
