  • A driver was shot in the head on Tuesday and crashed in downtown St. Louis, according to reports.
Shot in the head, the driver of a Mercedes SUV careened through downtown at dinner time on Tuesday and slammed into a parked car and a flower planter, police say.

The wounded driver was stopped in traffic at about 7:20 p.m. when three men approached the SUV, possibly in an attempted robbery, police say.

The driver tried to wave them away and drive off when the light turned green, but one of the men shot through the window, striking him in the forehead, police say. The Mercedes lurched up the block and crashed near the intersection of Ninth and Olive streets, outside Culinaria market, KMOV reported.

The suspects fled on foot and were still on the loose Wednesday. The driver was hospitalized in stable condition.
