A north St. Louis man has been charged with murder in the slaying of a taxi driver in the Central West End.

Shakur Ellis is accused of being an accomplice in the September 14 attack, according to court documents. The eighteen-year-old was riding along with another person early that morning when they spotted Timothy Grice, 38, alone in his cab on Laclede Avenue, police say.

Ellis and the other suspect, who was armed, hopped out to rob Grice, police say. The second suspect shot Grice in the neck, killing him.

The gunman stole Grice's cell phone and other belongings before he and Ellis got back in their car and fled, according to court documents.

Ellis has been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and two counts of armed criminal action. He has been jailed on a $250,000 bail.
