If you've picked up the latest copy of the Riverfront Times, which hit the streets Wednesday, you may have noticed something shiny — our cover.

As of this week, the RFT is sporting a glossy new look on both the front and back covers .... making us look a lot less like that old fish wrapper we all love to joke about and a lot more like the classy operation we've become (ahem). Going forward, our new look will better show off the great photography we're publishing — including this week's cover shot, by Zia Nizami — and, we hope, leave our readers' hands a bit less ink-stained.

Beyond that, we're proud to be not only surviving, but thriving, in our 40th year. More than two years ago, we increased our page counts, even as our competitors scaled back. We also increased the actual size of the page, returning to the elegant magazine dimensions that just feel better than the cheap square-shaped papers you see in some (lesser!) cities.

Even as we've cast off our smudgy newsprint jacket for something new, though, some things are staying the same. We're continuing to publish the same great investigative journalism, the same insightful criticism, the same in-depth coverage of the city's arts, food and nightlife scene. Pick us up, and we're confident you'll find something good to read. And isn't that the entire point?

We're also proud that we completed our move to Downtown West this Wednesday, bringing the Riverfront Times back to the city. We couldn't ask for a better news town than St. Louis, and we're planning on covering it with verve for another 40 years.

So please, go ahead, marvel at our sharp new visage. The future looks bright. Now we think our cover does too.
