St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter announced on Twitter on Monday that he will donate $10,000 toward Hurricane Harvey relief efforts in Houston for every home run he hits.

The native Texan's pledge extends throughout the rest of the baseball season.

In the series of tweets, Carpenter explains that he and his wife lived in the Houston area for most of their lives and that their "hearts are hurting for those families affected by hurricane Harvey." He also refers followers to a link from Houston's ABC 13 that outlines ways to help victims of the hurricane — also telling Major League Baseball pitchers to "throw balls down the middle."

And it gets even better. Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright jumped in on the effort, Carpenter tweeted, promising to match the donation for each of Carpenter's home runs.

So, now you've got another reason to root for the Cardinals — and Carpenter in particular. Each home run means $20,000 for a good cause ... and, yeah, we can use the runs too!
