Hammer Attack in the Central West End Has Police Searching for Suspect

Police are begging for the public's help after a 25-year-old woman was attacked with a hammer and nearly forced into a vehicle during a robbery in the heart of the Central West End.

The attack happened at 5:50 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23. The woman was waiting at the bus stop on North Euclid Avenue, less than a block from its intersection with Maryland Avenue, when a man hopped out of a Chevy Malibu and demanded her property.

The suspect then struck the victim with the hammer and pulled her purple NorthFace backpack from her back," according to a police summary of the incident. "The suspect also ordered the victim to get into his vehicle. After a struggle, the suspect got back into the described vehicle and drove southbound on Euclid out of sight."

Police say the woman suffered an injury to her face and head but declined medical treatment. Her laptop, glasses, credit card, textbooks and notebooks were stolen.

The suspect is described as a black male from 5'9" to 6'0" with a light to medium complexion. He had a medium build and was wearing a dark (possibly navy blue) coat, black shirt and light-colored blue jeans.

The Malibu is described as being from 2008 to 2011, either silver or light blue, with a decal or other object affixed to the lower left corner of the rear windshield. The car had no license plates or temp tag at the time of the robbery.
