St. Charles County cops on Thursday found what appeared to be a WWII-era rocket in the front seat of a man's abandoned car.

Officers responded shortly before noon to Weldon Springs for reports of a suicidal man. When they arrived, he had left his car near Highway 94 South and headed off on foot. The man was quickly found and taken into custody, but the car was more of a problem.

Inside the vehicle, they spotted what they suspect is an aging round from a bazooka, the legendary rocket launcher. The department's bomb squad responded as police evacuated the area and shut down nearby roads. The ATF and FBI bomb squad also responded.

The county bomb squad was eventually able to remove the possible explosive, and police say they plan to turn it over to the military.
