  • A 13-year-old was arrested in a Cherokee Street carjacking.

A 13-year-old carjacked a woman at gunpoint on Wednesday morning and led cops on a short chase, police say.

The boy climbed into the passenger seat of the 36-year-old woman's car at about 7 a.m. while she was parked in the 3300 block of Cherokee Street, according to a police summary. He is accused of then pulling out a gun and ordering her out of the vehicle.

The young teen drove off, but was spotted by police about twenty minutes later in the 4000 block of Nebraska Ave, about a mile southeast. Officers tried to pull him over, but the boy sped off, police say. He soon crashed in the 3400 block of Wisconsin Avenue and was taken into custody.

He was placed in the custody of the juvenile courts, police say.
