When going on a reality show, you really should expect anything. A “massive prude” and an OnlyFans star who specializes in gay porn walked away from a British reality show £50k richer each, but with a new bestie. Handcuffed: Last Pair Standing was hosted by Jonathan Ross on Channel 4, and proved to everyone that sometimes the real prize has nothing to do with money.

Here’s the basic premise of the show: 18 Brits were split into 9 pairs of complete opposites, then physically handcuffed together 24/7. Everything had to be done together. Eating, sleeping, showering, potty breaks, EVERYTHING. The goal was to be the last pair still cuffed, and win a grand total of £100,000 (£50k apiece once split). It was framed as a social experiment, with Jonathan Ross saying “to know is to love,” at the launch of the show. The finale involved the top 3 pairs doing a race across Britain, starting in Scotland, then going to Wales, then finally to London. They weren’t allowed money or phones, only a train ticket. They then had to undergo a final quiz at Loch Lomund a-la Mr & Mrs-style to find out just exactly how well these cuff buddies knew one another.
The winning pair was… about as opposite as it gets. Charlie (44) is a self-described “massive prude,” traditional homemaker, and mom of three who is married to Simon. She’s in the middle of writing a non-fiction lifestyle book she’s titling Through the Seasons. Rob (32) is a heavily tattooed, full-time content creator on OnlyFans where he primarily shares gay porn, though he himself identifies as straight.
When Rob revealed his profession to Charlie over a dinner, it was, as Charlie said, “a bit of a shock.” The pair went together to her husband Simon to fill him in, and he didn’t take it well. At all. Simon broke down in tears, insulted Rob’s professional world (the word “sleazy” was bandied about), and claimed that it was “giving him palpitations.” He was livid, and both Charlie and her husband described being more than a little stressed about the pairing. The episode where Rob made his grand reveal ended on a cliffhanger, leaving the audience wondering whether Charlie would see the show through after she stated that she had to “put her family first.” However, the pair found a way to push through, making theirs the most compelling arc in the series.
The duo really had no choice but to get to know one another better— hi, Charlie wore a blindfold so Rob could shower without making her prudish self too uncomfortable. So in the spirit of getting to know her show partner, Charlie spoke with one of Rob’s friends, and learned that Rob’s reasons for making gay porn despite being a straight man are tied back to a childhood marked by trauma. Charlie’s face was then marked by tears as the mom of three felt her heart breaking for her show partner. Rob began to encourage Charlie to stop putting everyone else’s needs ahead of her own, and to put herself first from time to time. He must have had an impact on her, because she’s said that she’s been actively doing that since, and good for her!
The pair grew so close that Rob said he was sad when the cuffs finally came off, knowing it meant that his partner had to go. Charlie now refers to Rob as a gentle giant and a kind soul. Both of them noted that they had to keep a lid on their friendship until after the finale aired, and they’re happy now that they can be open about their affection for one another. How close are the new besties? Well, remember how Simon (Charlie’s husband) blew up initially? He’s given his blessing on their friendship.
The big lesson that Charlie and Rob’s relationship brought into the limelight, is that content creators are real people too. Rob’s story is a stark reminder that OnlyFans creators— which includes porn OnlyFans creators— are all human beings, and not two-dimensional sex objects. Rob is funny, warm, emotionally intelligent, and has a generous heart; none of those traits fit the stereotype that society tries to paint content creators with. His continued friendship with Charlie (who is still a self-proclaimed prude), challenges the idea that adult content creators must exist in their own separate world.
When asked what they intend to do with their prize money, Rob said that he was inspired by another contestant named Tilly, and will be making a trip to Costco to load up on food and drinks, and then wants to go out and help her feed the homeless. He also plans to travel to Southeast Asia, invest in a new business, and put a little bit of money into savings; but his first impulse was to find a way to give back. So many successful OnlyFans creators make a point of giving back to their communities, and donating money to causes they care deeply about once they’re financially stable, and Rob is the latest visible example of that philanthropic trend.
On paper, the prize was £100k. But the real prize was the new, and very genuine friendship, and the lesson that people are so much more than their job title. Rob, I hope you enjoy every moment of serving the homeless, and touring Asia. Make sure to bring back something fun for Charlie and Simon! Maybe some fun seasonings? Even prudes like a little spice from time to time.
