After a magical season opener, the J. Scheidegger Center for the Arts at Lindenwood University invites comedy lovers to see the Southern Fried Chicks on Nov. 20!
You may remember them from their one-hour debut comedy special on CMT. The top-grossing, all-female comedy tour features a trio of expert comedians who bring down-to-earth comedy, Southern sass, and big laughs.
The “Cage-Free Comedy Tour” stars Etta May, one of the top Southern comics in the business. She has been seen on “Oprah," CMT, Showtime, and many others. May is an audience favorite of XM/Sirius Radio Comedy Channels and on the syndicated radio show “The Bob and Tom Show.” She is also a winner of the prestigious, American Comedy Award’s “Comic of the Year." This Kentucky woman is a comedy icon.
When talking about her comedy, May said, “People like to say, ‘laughter is the best medicine.’ I can personally say comedy saved my life. I was lost without it.” She continued: “COVID made me fall in love with standup again. I wish everybody, just once, could feel the energy that comes rushing at you and the adrenaline that fills every cell of your body when you perform standup. It feels like we [the comedian and audience] become one soul, one heart.”
Rounding out the lineup are Sonya White and Jodi White (no relation). Sonya White is a country girl, originally from Virginia, who then moved to Chicago and found herself in a different world. Her act combines southern charm with big city street smarts. Real-life experiences and dead-on impersonations make her shows crazy, silly, and fun! Sonya White has had Specials on HBO, the E! Network, and Comedy Central.
Jodi White is bold and brazen, and you’ll love her for it. She is never the bridesmaid, always the bride – and she’s got four dresses to prove it. Now on husband number four, with three kids and three ex-husbands, Jodi doesn’t hold back on stage or in life. She tells it like it is! In addition to comedy festivals across the U.S. and Canada, Jodi White is a favorite on Carnival Cruise Lines and has been featured on Nick at Nite, Nick Jr., MTV and “Island Hoppers” with James Van Der Beek.
To describe their show, May said, “Think Blue Collar Comedy Tour with better hair!” It promises to be a sidesplitting evening.
