100 Years Young

You think you know University City, but do you know University City? Jay Fram must — especially since he was commissioned to immortalize U. City through photographs in honor of its 100th year. Indeed, the city has come a long way: Where once there was but a dirt road, there is Delmar Boulevard, and where once there were streetcars, there may be again. To celebrate all of the changes, the city's Municipal Commission on Arts and Letters sponsors Centennial Reflections: Images of University City, an exhibit of Fram's photos, at Compônere Gallery of Art and Fashion (6509 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-721-1181). The show includes bold, beautiful color images of U. City locals and locales and offers a new look at old places. On display through Saturday, January 28, the exhibit is one of the pioneer events of "100 Fun Things to Do in U. City," a year-long centennial soiree sponsored by the municipality.
