Still recovering from last week's marathon of patriotism, pork steaks and powder burns? You'd better recover in a hurry, because the 2001 Sam's Club Rib America Festival kicks off a four-day run on Thursday at the Soldiers Memorial. As the name implies, there will be plenty of ribs and other types of 'cue -- supplied by vendors hailing from as far away as Texas and New Jersey, Ohio and North Carolina (but not from here, curiously). The Fest offers plenty of 'cue-eatin' music as well. Little Feat headlines Thursday night, preceded by Bill Barnett and Daisychain. Friday's headliner is the Fixx, with Brandy Johnson and Just Add Water opening. The music hits high gear on Saturday, with the funk of the Ohio Players, keyboard-driven alt-rockers Mesh, singer/songwriter Todd Snider and New Orleans' own Cowboy Mouth; Mind Over Soul and Slammy winners Jive Turkey open. Sunday's finale is an all-star gathering of St. Louis blues and R&B legends, featuring Bennie Smith and his Urban Blues Express, Oliver Sain (pictured) and Johnnie Johnson. The music's free; alas, the barbecue and beverages aren't. For full details on the festival, check out www.ribamerica.com.
