3-D Stooges, Sci-Fi and Scares

In 1953 House Of Wax ignited a worldwide 3-D craze as movie studios turned to the third dimension in an effort to lure viewers away from those newfangled TV sets adorning their family rooms. The film's star, Vincent Price, followed up House of Wax with the similarly themed stereoscopic revenge flick The Mad Magician, and this, along with five other condensed Super-8 films from the golden age of 3-D are the centerpiece of this month's Super-8 Movie Madness at the Way Out Club (2525 South Jefferson Avenue; 314-664-7638). Also on the bill are Murder in 3-D, the Universal Studios sci-Fi classics The Creature From the Black Lagoon and It Came From Outer Space, and complete presentations of both eye-popping, eye-poking Three Stooges 3-D films "Spooks" and "Pardon My Backfire." Admission is just $3 and includes a pair of anaglyph 3-D glasses. Show time is 8 p.m.
