St. Louis Renaissance Festival

Saturdays, Sundays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Continues through Oct. 14

If the modern world has you down, you could always escape to the past in Wentzville. The St. Louis Renaissance Festival is back in action from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through October 14 at Rotary Park (2577 West Meyer Road, Wentzville; www.stlrenfest.com), celebrating the better qualities of the sixteenth century. There are knightly jousts daily at 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., wandering performers, a royal court with no power to screw up anyone's life, belly dancers, pirates and giant turkey legs to gnaw on. This weekend (September 22 and 23) is Celtic Festival, with kilt contests, beard competitions, a "bonny knees" competition for, yes, the bonniest knees and a William Wallace costume contest. Admission is $10.95 to $19.95. $10.95-$19.95

The 24th Annual Open House Wings & Wheels Fly In and Car Show will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29 at St. Louis Regional Airport on Hwy. 111 in East Alton, featuring hundreds of planes and cars. The Fly In traditionally hosts an assortment of modern Cessna, Piper and Beach aircraft, a number of ultra lights, several helicopters, and occasionally even historic planes and specialty aircraft like a glider or a hovercraft. The car show includes hot rods, antique automobiles, custom cars and motorcycles from around 4 states. On Sunday, September 30, kids ages 8-17 can return with their parents

Urban Chestnut Brewing Company’s (UCBC) annual Oktoberfest St. Louis returns for its eighth year at its Midtown Brewery & Biergarten. The three-day festival begins Friday, Sept. 28, and runs through Sunday, Sept. 30. The theme for this year’s celebration is From Biergarten to Big Top. The free-to-attend festival will feature a full lineup of rock, blues, polka and oompah-thumping music on two stages as well as performances throughout the festival by members of Circus Flora.
