Head to the Science Center for some after-hours fun during Science at Sunset. Groups of all ages will enjoy this summer evening event held from 5pm-8:30pm every Thursday night June through August. Gauguin’s Arts of Innovation: Rethinking the Boundaries of Modern Art

Sun., July 21, 2-3 p.m.

Elizabeth C. Childs, Etta and Mark Steinberg Professor of Modern Art History, and Chair, Department of Art History and Archaeology, Arts and Sciences, Washington University in St Louis This lecture considers the broad range of Gauguin’s artistic production, ranging from his engagement with Impressionist style and subjects, to his radical experimentation in ceramics, to his innovative art produced in Tahiti for a French audience. His complementary work as a writer will also be addressed, focusing on an important manuscript in the Museum’s collection that he wrote while in Polynesia on the topic of global religion and modern society. 314.721.0072
