Inspired by a brother’s high school science project, "The Perpetual Motion Machine" is Brittany Ackerman's memoir in essays that attempts to save a sibling by depicting the visceral pain that accompanies longing for some past impossibility. In "The Dark Eclipse," Andrew Barnes seeks to come to terms with the suicide of his older brother, Mike, and their status as gay brothers raised in a large conservative family in the Midwest. Free
