The beautiful and tragic story of Verona’s star-crossed lovers has inspired theatrical and musical productions for 400 years. Saint Louis Ballet presents Shakepeare’s most enduring story as a full-length ballet, with original choreography by Artistic Director Gen Horiuchi and set to a stunning score by Sergei Prokofiev. The production is known for its vivid characterizations, dramatic swordfights and a romantic pas de deux best known as the “Balcony Scene”. $35-$69

The Nutcracker fills the mainstage at the Touhill with spectacular sets, costumes and a sizeable cast, helmed by the professional company of Saint Louis Ballet. The ensemble swells with special guest performers and the talented students of the Saint Louis Ballet School in children’s roles. The highly entertaining favorite is performed to the traditional Tchaikovsky score. This season, Saint Louis Ballet offers 13 productions, including weekend, weekday and weeknight performances. For the very first time, Saint Louis presents one of George Balanchine’s iconic ballets - Rubies. The ruby red costumes and romantic nature of the ballet are well suited to Valentine’s weekend. Performed by major companies throughout the world, Rubies is set to music by Igor Stravinsky and is the “jazziest”, most accessible, and most often performed of Balanchine’s “jewel” ballets. Also featured are two signature works of Chicago’s acclaimed Joffrey Ballet - Reflections and Light Rain by Gerald Arpino. An original work by Gen Horiuchi will complete the program. $34-$59

For twenty-five years, Wayne McGregor has been making choreography that interrogates life through the experience of the body, moving intelligently in space and time. His practice has been far-reaching and sought out collaborators from a diverse range of artistic and scientific fields to investigate the nature of embodied cognition. Now McGregor turns his attention to the body as archive, as he embarks on a cycle of choreographic portraits illuminated by the sequencing of his own genome. $35-$69

A great comic ballet of the 19th century, Coppélia is the story of a “mad” inventor and the doll he creates that is so life-like the village boy falls in love with it. Coppélia remains as one of the most beloved classical works in the ballet repertory. Based on two stories by E.T.A. Hoffman and with music by Leo Delibes, it is Saint Louis Ballet Artistic Director Gen Horiuchi’s eighth full-length production for the company, closing the mainstage season with wit and charm. $35-$69

American conceptual artist Susan Scafati’s solo show "If a 🌳 falls…" explores existence and perception in the age of smartphones, inviting us to think about how representation of one’s self and one’s world is expressed within our visual, virtual culture today. The exhibit includes pigment prints, acrylic sculptures and Tablet-sized silver gelatin prints. The Bonsack Gallery is a not-for-profit educational gallery on the campus of John Burroughs School.
