Toys are constant companions throughout childhood and beyond. Today’s children can find themselves represented in their toys, but this hasn’t always been the case. From Caricature to Celebration: A Brief History of African-American Dolls takes you on a tour of dolls spanning more than a hundred years. From the earliest days of traditional African dolls and racial stereotypes through the years of assimilation and early acceptance, follow the journey through more than 80 dolls to reach the present day. Learn to sculpt a wall-hanging relief sculpture! You can do it. All ability levels are welcome! You will create at least one small finished sculpture suitable for hanging on your wall. You will receive instruction and encouragement as you sculpt, create a simple mold and cast your wall hanging artwork in plaster. Finish patina options will be discussed and possibly completed depending on time. Don’t miss this great opportunity! Entering its sixth year, the Chain of Rocks Bridge is now the permanent home of our Spring Duathlon. Originally held on the historic Eads Bridge we re-located the event to a longer bridge and a more rural bicycle course. The iconic Chain of Rocks Bridge and surrounding area is the perfect venue to ease into an active event season. The event starts and finishes at the foot of the Chain of Rocks Bridge on the Illinois side. Participants will run from Illinois to Missouri and back, followed by a flat, fast out and back bike circuit, returning to a final $55-$90, Register early for the best prices!
