As part of its annual celebration of Chinese New Year, the St Louis Chinese community welcomes professional singers, dancers and acrobats from Guangdong, China. The theme is “harmony and prosperity,” as the hosting organizations hope to emphasize the unique role of arts in promoting cultural understanding, and the need for more opportunities that facilitate dialogs of economic exchanges and prosperity. Among the lineup of performers are the region's best acrobats, an esteemed pipa (a traditional Chinese music instrument) performer, and award-winning dancers. The ASQ welcomes internationally acclaimed pianist Tian Ying to the Touhill for a collaborative evening with a distinctly Hungarian flavor! Known for his imaginative style and sound, Mr. Ying opens the evening with Chopin’s Nocturne in C minor, Op.48 and Franz Liszt’s alluring Concert Paraphrase, based on last act of Giuseppe Verdi’s iconic opera, Rigoletto. The Arianna Quartet follows with a performance of Bela Bartok’s Quartet No.2, and then joins forces with Mr. Ying in a performance of Johannes Brahms’ resplendent Piano Quintet in F minor, Op.34. $29

The Arianna Quartet welcomes world-renowned oboe virtuoso Alex Klein, principal oboist of the Chicago Symphony, back to St. Louis for an evening of unparalleled artistry and aesthetic beauty, featuring the eclectic sounds of Toru Takemitsu’s quintet Entre-Temps and Anton Reicha’s elegant Oboe Quintet in F Major, Op.107. The ASQ rounds out the evening with a performance of Maurice Ravel’s radiant Quartet in F Major, a work known for its exotic sounds and kaleidoscopic colors.
