Riverbend, a public art installation, opens at the Gateway Arch National Park September 22, 2-5pm with activity for kids and adults, the Sappington Creek Bluegrass Band and food trucks. The 100-foot-long artwork, made of silver, mirror-like material that references the Arch, shows the navigable Missouri River, highlighting it as the primary means of Westward Expansion and Gateway to the West for Lewis and Clark and many others. Riverbend will represent the confluence with the Mississippi on the east and extend westward. Artist Margaret Keller won the Critical Mass for the Visual Arts Public Works Project commission to create this artwork. Free

Arch Builders’ Reunion

The National Park Service will honor the many engineers, tradesmen and support staff who contributed to the construction of the Gateway Arch from 1963 to 1965. The gathering, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the museum 10:30 a.m. to noon. Arch Builders will share memories and inspire current and future generations about the tenacity of their work ethic and their feats of engineering and craftsmanship that are showcased in the vintage footage of the film. Join us in the new museum at Gateway Arch National Park for a special screening of Monument to the Dream, Charles Guggenheim’s documentary film about the building of the Arch. The screening will be accompanied by a live performance of its musical score from local musicians under the baton of Darwin Aquino, conductor of the Washington University Symphony Orchestra.
