If the modern world has you down, you could always escape to the past in Wentzville. The St. Louis Renaissance Festival is back in action from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through October 14 at Rotary Park (2577 West Meyer Road, Wentzville; www.stlrenfest.com), celebrating the better qualities of the sixteenth century. There are knightly jousts daily at 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., wandering performers, a royal court with no power to screw up anyone's life, belly dancers, pirates and giant turkey legs to gnaw on. This weekend (September 22 and 23) is Celtic Festival, with kilt contests, beard competitions, a "bonny knees" competition for, yes, the bonniest knees and a William Wallace costume contest. Admission is $10.95 to $19.95. $10.95-$19.95

Two concurrent exhibits will be on display at St. Charles Community College from Sept. 4-29. ‘Mixed’ is a multimedia invitational art exhibit focusing on mixed media artwork by nine established and emerging artists from the St. Louis region, including Bruce Alves, Brent Becker, Joe Chesla, Tim Hahn, Ruth Kolker, Amy Reidel, Allana Ross, Kathie Thomas and Timothy Wagner. ‘These Sacred Days’ features the recent photographs of SCC professor Kathleen Sanker. Operation Food Search (OFS), a non-profit hunger relief organization, will host its 25th annual golf tournament presented by Ascension Health with registration beginning at 11 a.m. and a shotgun start at noon. Tickets – which are $300 per golfer or $1,200 per team of four golfers – include 18 holes with golf cart, golf goodie bag, lunch and dinner. A live and silent auction will be held during the barbecue dinner starting at 5 p.m. Proceeds will go toward ending childhood hunger and family food insecurity in the St. Louis bi-state region. $300 per golfer and $1,200 per team of four golfers
