Another chain restaurant that capitalizes on Italian cuisine. This Ohio-based company calls itself a Tuscan steak and chop house and serves up wood-fired grilled pork chops, lamb chops, whole roasted chicken and several steaks done with Tuscan touches (i.e., rosemary and lemon). For the poultry lover, there's chicken breast cooked under a brick, a traditional Tuscan method that sears the meat while retaining juiciness. The wood-fired oven pumps out an array of pizzas and tasty flatbreads, while several pastas round out the roster. The space is huge -- nearly 8,000 square feet -- and decorated with a blend of elegance and casual flair. Yes, it's a chain. But Brio offers simple food with more than a nod toward authenticity served in a pleasant and festive, if not noisy, setting.
Danno's American Pub is a bit off the beaten path for the average city-bound 'hood rat, but it's also a good reminder why venturing out of the city is a worthwhile exercise. Danno's is exactly what you expect from a classic American bar, except this one is tended by an adventurous mixologist, not just someone who knows what goes in a cranberry-vodka. Danno's casual atmosphere and comfy club chairs lend a relaxed air that facilitates anonymity -- something that's hard to come by in the big small town that is St. Louis proper.
The amazing, authentic Italian food that you have come to know and love from J.F. Sanfilippo's downtown has arrived in the Chesterfield Valley! Filippo's Italian Kitchen and Bar combines the best menu options from the downtown location with a taste of West County nightlife.
Located in an old Captain D's in the city's Bevo neighborhood, Laganini offers what might best be called global comfort food: classic, hearty meat dishes like veal and chicken schnitzel (the latter stuffed with Gorgonzola), beef stroganoff and the fearsome Bosnian mixed grill known as mjesano meso (sausage, hamburger, veal, chicken and a small rib-eye steak). At $7.50, the Bosnian specialty cevapcici is a steal, providing nearly a dozen small, mildly spiced beef links on an oversize hamburger bun. The real surprise, though, is the pizza, featuring a thin, lightly chewy crust and simple yet elegant topping combinations.
