If St. Louis has a signature sandwich, the leading contender must be the Amighetti's special, an ultragourmet poorboy overloaded with meats, cheese and peppers on crusty Italian bread. This location on the Hill is the original, and here you'll find many other fine sandwich choices, along with delectable ices and gelati and fresh baked goods. Always crowded at lunchtime. See listing for second location under "Webster/Kirkwood."
Hazelwood restaurant Angelo's Chicago Taste keeps it simple with a modest storefront and a straightforward menu. Guests can order at the counter and sit at one of the few tables inside. The menu features gyros, tamales, Philly cheese steak, burgers, fajitas, and Chicago-style hot dogs, among other sandwich selections.
Local Mexican restaurant mainstay Casa Gallardo has been serving since 1975, and the Bridgeton location follows suit. Diners can enjoy the festive décor while munching on nachos, quesadillas, carne asada or many of the other options available. A few items are also available a la carte, but save room for deep-fried ice cream, flan or sopapillas.
Inside El Coco Loco's modest building diners can enjoy a menu of the standard Mexican-restaurant faves alongside T-ravs and chicken tenders. Mexican dishes include quesadillas, enchiladas, burritos and of course combination platters, as well as burgers and tortas. El Coco Loco also offers lunch specials and a kids' menu. Wash it all down with a margarita - available in such flavors and blueberry and coconut, and in sizes ranging from "baby" all the way to a full pitcher. El Coco Loco also has pool tables and darts.
