We can't quite vouch for Backstreet being St. Louis' best venue for jazz and blues, but it's certainly the best place west of Jefferson. Its Westport Plaza location makes Backstreet an unlikely spot for regulars, and most of the crowds tend to pour in post-Funny Bone. Local acts such as the Soulard Blues Band, Joe Marlotti and Buffalo Bob fill this small, dark space with great music even when it's not full of people.
One of Maryland Heights' friendliest and busiest bars, The Brew House is made up of equal parts "bros" and brouhaha. Take into account its close proximity to several apartment complexes, and it's easy enough to see why you'll find a diverse (and fairly random) selection of co-eds, grads, businessmen, and townies all under the same roof. The much-coveted pool table in the back always brings out a slew of seasoned players, but newcomers are always welcome to shoot with the best. Loosen your tie, turn your baseball hat backwards and come on in for inexpensive drinks and some pretty hilarious '80s karaoke.
Amid the restaurant mecca that is Westport lies one of the five area Casa Gallardo Mexican restaurants. True to its brethren, ,this location also offers items that have become go-to Mexican-restaurant faves. Start off with guacamole made tableside then cruise on to the burritos, chimichangas or perhaps a combination platter, for the undecided.
