Iowa Buffet

Iowa Buffet perfectly exemplifies the phrase, "diamond in the rough." For decades, it has existed quietly on a street corner in the city, unbeknownst to many. Its humble interior channels the eccentricities of a lovable dive with a completely unpretentious vibe (Swimsuit calendar? Check. Scratchers tickets and various pre-packaged snacks? Check). Iowa Buffet isn't here to impress; instead, it operates the same way day in and day out, schlepping cheap beers and comforting eats to all who find their way inside. The "Hank burger," named after original owner Henry Koziaki, gets cooked right alongside the bar in a grill older than most of the bars patrons. It costs only a few bucks and is available pretty much any time of the day. Come into Iowa Buffet on a weekday and you'll get to try one of owner Carolyn McKinney's home-cooked creations. Saturdays feature plates of delicious barbecue.
