Washington University's former dean of students has been sentenced to four years and six months in federal prison on a child porn charge.
Justin X. Carroll — known online as "MOperv" — viewed more than 600 pictures and fifteen videos of children engaged in illicit sex acts. The victims included boys as young as three years old, according to court documents.
Carroll was at one time a popular administrator at the university, where he worked for 35 years. Until he was removed, he served in a hybrid role as associate vice chancellor, dean of students and interim athletics director.
The university announced on January 10 that the 67-year-old married father was retiring on February 1. In reality, the university later revealed, he had already been suspended and barred from campus after federal investigators contacted school officials. He tendered his resignation January 5, the university says.
Agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement as well as the Department of Homeland Security were investigating an online child porn ring when they traced IP addresses to Carroll's home in University City and to his office at Wash U, according to prosecutors.
He was indicted in January and pleaded guilty in July to a felony count of access with intent to view child pornography.
