moe.

Saturday, February 4; the Pageant (6161 Delmar Boulevard)

Originally alternating between the somewhat-prosaic handle Five Guys Named Moe and the more esoteric Haggis, this quartet eventually settled on the monosyllabic moniker moe. in 1991. (That's right, race fans, lowercase and with a period.) The Buffalo-based act boasts an assortment of feathers in its cap, including a stint on the 1997 Further Festival tour and a performance during the riot-free portion of Woodstock '99. With a weaving twin-guitar attack and a stout low-end provided by outstanding bassist Rob Derhak, moe. brews its own unique blend of groove. Reflecting an array of genres, the group's sound ranges from the peppier melodies of its early influences (Modern English and Steely Dan) to the more blues-soaked rock of the Allman Brothers and Led Zeppelin.
