Is Saddam Guilty?

Week of July 21-27, 2004

Josh Grosman
Rock & Roll Impresario
"Well, I don't think that's exactly for me to judge, but a more important question is: Why isn't George Bush being held accountable for any of the actions he's taken? We haven't found any weapons of mass destruction, so there really isn't any good reason for us being in Iraq. To me, there's something fishy there. Why should we believe the president when he points his finger and says, 'Oh, this guy's the bad guy'?"

Beverly Hacker
Station Manager, KDHX (88.1 FM)
"Is he guilty? He's an opportunistic dictator, he's stomped on human rights, and he's been a bad guy all around. So yeah, he is guilty. Is he any more guilty than a whole lot of other leaders? Not sure, but whatever befalls him now is up to the Iraqi people. It's not up to us any more than it was up to us to invade Iraq. I think that the U.S. is overstepping -- I just don't think it's our job to police the entire world."

Kent MacLean
Cabinet Maker, Structural Arts
"Saddam is as guilty as we are."

Renee Bowerman
Graphic Designer, Southeast Missouri
Hospital - Cape Girardeau

"Everybody's guilty of something -- might be not washing your hands after using the bathroom or passing gas in a crowded elevator, which is very heinous. So without knowing the specific charges, I can't really pass judgment."

Jonathan Baer
Singer-Songwriter
"He's definitely guilty of poor hygiene at the time he was captured in that spider-hole, and it was amusing to see him coming out, looking like an adjunct philosophy professor in the Twelve-Step Program [who's] somewhere around step eight or nine. As for his punishment, Saddam should have to parade around with Baton Bob in this heat for about a week."

Tony Boersma

"Only thing I think Saddam Hussein is guilty of is not loving enough. He seems like kind of a fun guy -- he owns a country, has lots of palaces; he probably had great parties. But he doesn't love, and you know the more you give love, the more you receive love. And someday, in the afterlife, he'd be sitting around with Hitler, saying, 'Love is the answer. Why didn't you love more?' And Hitler would be like, 'Damn! I didn't even think of that.'"
