DJ Micro

Wednesday, November 26; Velvet

Think back: When was the last time you danced? Not just swaying your hips a bit at a hotel banquet-hall wedding reception or nodding your head to the DJ du jour at a recent gallery opening, but really and truly danced -- heart racing, body sweating, completely letting go of all insecurities and dancing your ass off. Halloween? Beat Fest, maybe? Before that?

If it has been too long, head out this week. Velvet's hosting DJ Micro as part of their "Week of Thanks" events (thanks that someone other than Dave Aude is playing -- his sets are tight, but enough is enough). Micro's a supporter of Velvet as well; his Web site even links to the club's. Appropriately so, because his cool trance beats and builds suit the space and the dance floor perfectly. His recent single, the generically titled "Penetrate" included on Moonshine's October compilation, is a little cheesy and not as dark as it could be, but maybe that'll brighten up the looming winter. One thing's for sure: It's danceable, and the rest of his set will be as well.

Even though that track appeared just last month on a Moonshine comp, Micro left the label a while back. And he no longer associates with Surge Recordings, which put out his spring release My Frequency. So what label is Micro with? According to his management, he has signed on with System Recordings, also the home of cowboy DJ D:Fuse among other big names. To complicate matters, System is claiming the twelve-inch "Penetrate" as Micro's debut with that label. Confusing, no?

None of that matters for your personal feet fete. Get out and dance. (And if you must get out before next Wednesday, visit Lo this Friday for the tenth anniversary of infamous former St. Louisans -- and Miami Winter Music Conference frequenters -- the Superstars of Love. Per their Web site and the RFT's count, it's only been nine years, but that's still worth celebrating, and what are a few months between friends?)
