Reel Late Midnight Movie Series. The Tivoli Theatre presents a summer series of classic and destined to be classic films. This week features Savage Steve Holland's Better Off Dead (1985). Things go from bad to worse to horrifying for lovestruck teenager Lane Myer (John Cusack) when his girlfriend dumps him for another boy. All his accumulated luck turns bad at once, and his day devolves into a comedy of errors; even Lane's suicide attempt fails. The result is a cult classic, instantly quotable ("I want my $2!") and perfect for parties. Also playing this weekend as part of the series is the anime classic Akira. Both play at midnight June 21-22 at the Tivoli. (NR)
