Crystal Method

9 p.m. Saturday, November 22. Dante's, 3221 Olive Street.

Even if you don't own an album by the Crystal Method, you've probably been listening to its big-beat tracks for years, whether on dude-approved cinematic soundtracks like The Matrix or the last time you tinkered on Playstation 2 or Xbox. Ken Jordan and Scott Kirkland are the iconic First Dudes of American electronica, the ones who added rock & roll's grandeur and hip-hop's bass to the mix in the '90s and created a series of massively appealing hybrid tracks that swaggered from the underground into popular culture. A remake of its song "Now Is the Time" — a tune the pair originally wrote from a bunker studio in their two-car garage in California — has garnered some underground popularity recently, in part for its incorporation of Obama's Democratic Convention speech (which used the same civil rights slogan). This Dante's show is billed as a Crystal Method DJ set.
