The Pomegranates/Say Panther/Target Market

9 p.m. Tuesday, September 16. Off Broadway, 3509 Lemp Avenue

In the past few months, a band called the Pomegranates has stopped by St. Louis quite a bit, which may have made some think that it's a local group. But in reality, the quartet hails from Cincinnati, Ohio — and seems to be on the verge of breaking out. May's full-length Everything Is Alive is full of wide-eyed, winsome dreampop that's hard to categorize — which is a good thing. Touchstones include: Of Montreal from its ragged '60s indie-pop days, early Modest Mouse's lonesome freak-twang, Broken Social Scene's joyous percussion sparkles and a bunch of '80s bands of the cult (Go-Betweens) and popular (New Order) persuasion. Openers Target Market and Say Panther recently finished recording new albums, making this bill a pop-tastic triple threat.
