Andrew Jackson Jihad

8 p.m. Saturday, August 15. The Firebird, 2706 Olive Street.

"Folk-punk" has become a four-letter word recently, with every two-bit hack thinking that picking up a poorly tuned acoustic and ceasing to bathe equals talent. While that doesn't work for most, Arizona beard farmers Andrew Jackson Jihad have harnessed the spontaneity of folk-punk and fused it with an actual songwriting talent not seen since Against Me!'s early albums. The acoustic two-piece (guitar and double bass) typically tours out of a station wagon and is prone to spur-of-the-moment, late-night house (or even hotel room) shows. So if you don't get your fix tonight, keep your ear open when you're at the urinal — odds are, AJJ is playing somewhere else in an hour or so. And if the band isn't, then invite them over. We promise they won't even touch your soap.
