Still Trotting After All These Years

Continuing their perpetual barnstorming tour of the world, the Harlem Globetrotters swing by the Scottrade Center (South 14th Street and Clark Avenue) at 7 p.m. this evening for another game of high-energy, high-comedy basketball. The Globetrotters have an 82-year tradition of blending competitive playing with acrobatic flair, which has on occasion resulted in the team being typecast as a mockery of a "real" basketball team. But the Trotters' showmanship is merely an example of how highly skilled the players are. Consider the career record of the "Ambassadors of Goodwill": Including their most recent loss in March 2006, the Globetrotters' winning percentage is still a remarkable 98.5 percent — so the odds of witnessing another Globetrotters triumph tonight are definitely in your favor. And as always, the players sign autographs for fans young and old after the game. Tickets are $15 to $120; for more information call 314-241-1888 or visit www.scottradecenter.com.
